Production

First of all, create lot of newspaper sticks by rolling the newspaper. The newspaper sticks need to be small because if the roll is big, it will be too flexible and not durable enough.

Next is to weave the newspaper stick to give some durability for the shelf and connecting the each part of the shelf.

After that is to apply PVA glue on the surface of the shelf. An image after applying PVA glue:

Then, need to colour and clear spray the shelf for texture and the durability aspect.

This is the final outcome of the project:

Material & Ideation

MATERIAL SELECTION

The material that was selected for this project was newspaper. As the material is very flexible in shape, it is easy to bend the material. However, it is also a disadvantage because it is not very durable.

IDEATION

Newspaper is flexible but not durable. Instead of that, the idea is to create a product which is the opposite of that which is creating something that is fixed and durable. The product which was planned on creating is a shelf by webbing the newspapers. The reason is because most of the references for newspaper upcycle product were basket and bowl. In order to create something different, creating a shelf is the idea. Here are some of the examples of newspaper upcycle product:

Project

This project is about creating an upcycle product from waste material such as newspaper, cloth, wood and more. Uncycling is an activity where people can develop something new where they can save budget and space instead of throwing away their waste material. Here are some examples of upcycle product:

Upcycling

Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value.Upcycling is the opposite of downcycling, which is the other half of the recycling  process. Downcycling involves converting materials and products into new materials of lesser quality. Most recycling involves converting or extracting useful materials from a product and creating a different product or material.

Upcycling is the process of converting old or discarded materials into something useful and often beautiful.Upcycling gives an item a better purpose. And while jimmying the lock on your car to is giving that hanger a new purpose, it’s not necessarily better or more beautiful. And the mangled hanger is likely destined for the trash, which is the opposite intent of upcycling.

When you upcycle an item, you aren’t breaking down the materials. You may be refashioning it like cutting a t-shirt into strips of yarn. but it’s still made of the same materials as when you started. Also, the upcycled item is typically better or the same quality as the original.

Final Outcome & Video

After finished with the texturing and the lighting, all that's left is to render the design. This is the final outcome of the design:

This is a short video of the exhibition booth:

Texture, Content & Lighting

Then, start to apply texture on the design. Here are some textures used in the exhibition booth:

Texture of the floor

Texture of the chair

Made some contents for the booth such as posters.

Poster promoting the brand

Poster promoting the product

After that, put some lighting for the booth for it to make it more realistic.

Lighting effect:

Modelling Process

Next is to start modeling the designed in software (3DS Max). Start off by modeling the shape of design such as the floor, the wall and other shapes of the design.

Modelling the design:

Modellling the exercise equipment:

 Modelling the table and chairs:

Floor plan & Artistic Impression

After done sketching, need to draw the floor plan and the artistic impression for better understanding on how the design would look like and visualize it. Here are the floor plan and the artistic impression of the design:

Floor Plan

Artistic Impression

Ideation

The concept of the Fitbit exhibition booth is fitness because its reflect on the brand which is a fitness smartwatch manufacturer company and also an aspect of poor time management. The purpose of this exhibition room is to give awareness on the importance of time management.

Using the colour green, white and dark grey as the main colour of the booth to reflect the brand itself. For the content, using sports posters as the concept of the booth is fitness. For the shape of the design, using the shape of a watch because the topic is about time management.

There are 6 section in the exhibition booth which are:

1. Information counter where people can ask question on what the exhibition about and about the brand.
2. sales counter where people can ask  about the product and buy the product.
3. Exercise area where people can exercise and test out the product.
4. Rest area where people can rest after exercise and also test the product.
5. Brand poster where it shows information about the bran.
6. Product poster where it shows information about the product.

Market Situation

  • Fitbit finished 2015 as the winner in wearables, despite a loss in market share.
  • But Fitbit's had a slump fpr wearables market in 2015, dropping from 38 percent in 2014 to 27 percent last year. The company's share has been devoured by the popularity of the Apple Watchand demand for low-cost fitness trackers from China-based Xiaomi. However, Fitbit's market share did see a rise during the final quarter of 2015 when it hit 29.5 percent, up from 22.2 percent in the third quarter.
  • Despite expectations that big tech companies will dominate wearables just as they have with smartphones and tablets (Apple), the little guy (Fitbit) continues to hold on. In first quarter of 2016, Fitbit took first place again, while Xiaomi managed to steal second place from Apple.

Issues and problems

Time management is the process of organizing and planning how to divide your time between specific activities. Good time management enables you to work smarter. However, failing to manage your time damages your effectiveness and causes stress. Most people tend to do the later because of the unexpected occurrence such as sickness.

Ideas/Concept

Create an exhibition booth which give awareness on the importance of time management and health care.

Task 4: Re-production

For this task, we need to pick 4 to 5 portrait images which will we combined to make a different individual. The individual that i've made consist of 5 different parts of portrait images which are the body, the hair and ears, the eyes, the nose, and the mouth.

An image of combination from 5 different parts of portrait images.

Task 3: Lighting

For this task, we need take photoshoot with 3 kind of studio lighting condition which is one lighting, two lighting and three lighting.
One lighting

Two Lighting

Three lighting

Task 2: Semiotic & Images

For this task, we need to pick a keyword and represent it in images. The keyword that I pick for this task is nostalgia. The style that I used for this task was motion effect or slow shutter. This will create an effect which look like a blurry memory. A suitable effect to show of nostalgia.

Photography - Element of Photography

COMPOSITION
Composition is the arrangement of objects in a photograph. There are various guidelines and artistic conventions that attempt to describe what makes a good composition. The most widely recognized of these is the rule of thirds. The rule of thirds involves dividing the rectangular frame of the photograph into nine equally-sized sections using two imaginary vertical lines and two imaginary horizontal lines. The photographer then tries to align the main objects of the photograph along the lines or at their points of intersection. This is believed to create a balanced and aesthetically pleasing composition.

TEXTURE
Texture is a property of a photograph that inspires a sense of tactility in the observer: the photograph makes you want to reach in and touch it. The texture will involve the detailed surface properties of the object or objects depicted in the photograph. These can be irregularities in the surface of a piece of wood or the complexity of a patterned fabric.

DEPTH
Depth is the creation of a sense of three-dimensionality in a photograph. A sense of depth is created using focus, framing and angles. Focus involves zooming in on particular objects so they are crisp and clear and other objects are blurry and unclear. Framing involves identifying an obvious foreground object close to the camera, with the main subject of the photograph further away.

LINE
Lines are the outlines of objects in a photograph. The lines of a photograph guide the eyes of the viewer around the photograph, and a photograph with interesting lines seizes the viewer's attention. Different lines can be used to convey different moods. Horizontal lines can be used to convey a sense of rest or stability. Vertical lines can be used to convey many different moods, such as power, strength and growth. Diagonal lines convey action and dynamism.

LIGHT
At its most basic level a camera is a device for capturing and recording light, therefore patterns of light and shade are the most basic elements of any photograph. A photographer needs a deep understanding of how light affects the operation of a camera and how light affects the photograph produced by that camera. Key issues to consider are the level of light and the angle of light. The level of light in a photograph affects the level of detail visible in light or dark areas in the photograph: if the camera is exposed to a high level of light shaded areas will seem darker. The angle of light refers to the location of the original source of light in the photograph and determines the distribution of shadows in the photograph.

PATTERNS AND SHAPE
Our minds automatically organize the things we see into patterns and shapes. Patterns and shapes can be aesthetically pleasing and draw attention to a photograph. There are three important aspects of patterns and shape: rhythm, symmetry and triangles. Rhythm is where a shape is repeated in a photograph. Symmetry is when a photograph looks like it consists of two objects that are mirror images of each other. Symmetry can be subverted so the two objects are similar but not quite alike, which can be used to highlight difference and contrast. Triangles are formed within a photograph by two diagonal lines. These draw the viewer into the photograph and make the photograph more interesting.

VANTAGE POINT
The vantage point is the position from which the photograph was taken. It is the point of view of the viewer of the photograph. Different vantage points can convey different relationships with the objects depicted in the photograph. Viewed from a low vantage point looking up at an object conveys dominance, power and authority. Viewing from a level vantage point conveys neutrality and objectivity. A vantage point above and looking down on the object suggests vulnerability and weakness.

Photography - Composition

The term “composition” in photography. Simply put, composing an image means arranging elements within it in a way that suits the core idea or goal of your work best. Arranging elements can be done by actually moving the objects or subjects. A good example for this case is portrait or still life photography. Street photography involves anticipation, since the photographer doesn’t usually have the choice of moving his subjects himself, but has to wait for them to take the most suitable position within the frame. Another way of arranging elements is by changing your own position. Such a way is appropriate in circumstances that do not allow the photographer to physically move anything, like landscape photography.

Composition is a way of guiding the viewer’s eye towards the most important elements of your work, sometimes – in a very specific order. A good composition can help make a masterpiece even out of the dullest objects and subjects in the plainest of environments. On the other hand, a bad composition can ruin a photograph completely, despite how interesting the subject may be. A poorly judged composition is also not something you can usually fix in post-processing, unlike simple and common exposure or white balance errors. Cropping can sometimes save an image, but only when tighter framing and removal of certain portions of the image is the correct solution. That is why giving your choice of composition plenty of thought before capturing an image is a step of utmost importance.

Photography - High Key & Low Key Photography

High Key and Low Key photography make use of lighting and contrast (or lack thereof) to create a specific mood. Originally high key photography emerged as a solution for screens that could not correctly display high contrast ratios. Today capturing high key photos, like low key photos, is a stylistic choice in photography.

Deciding which style to choose for your photos all comes down to atmosphere as both are powerful tools for creating certain moods

With high key photography, multiple powerful sources of lighting are strategically positioned to eliminate harsh shadows from images, giving them a very light and optimistic feel. Components of the image with rich colors stand out and areas with lighter color wash out, almost to a white. High key is an excellent choice for both color and black and white photos.

With low key photography, lighting is reduced in order to produce images characterized by striking contrasts, dark tones, and shadows. Usually, a single source of lighting is used to achieve this composition. As a result, low key images often have a rather dark dramatic quality to them. Like high key, low key is a great choice for both color and black and white photos.
